Drought Support Initiative, a must read for farmers impacted by drought in WA

Article By Adam Carter | | Farm Services, Accounting, Business

Whilst most of the attention has been focused on the economic impact of COVID-19, there are still many businesses and workers throughout Western Australia that are, and will continue to be, feeling the effects of drought conditions across the State.

As a result, The Australian Government’s Drought Community Support Initiative has recently been extended to include Local Government Areas in Western Australia. Under the initiative, drought affected farming businesses, farm workers or farming suppliers/contractors may be eligible to receive a tax-free one-off payment of $3,000.

In order to be eligible for the payment, the recipient must be:

  • Over the age of 18;
  • An Australian citizen or permanent resident;
  • Live and/or work in a specified Local Government Area, and
  • Experiencing financial hardship due to the drought conditions.

Payments will be administered through The Salvation Army or St Vincent de Paul Society, depending on the Local Government Area, and will be subject to an application process which differs between the two charity agencies.

Here at Munro’s, our valued Primary Production clients are always at the forefront of our mind and therefore we take great pride accessing measures such as the above on behalf of our clients.

Should you be experiencing any hardship as a result of recent drought conditions, get in contact with us today and we will assist with determining your eligibility for the initiative and assisting with the application process.
