Inception and Vision: The Munro’s story begins in the early 1970s with Don Munro and Barry Virgo at Wesfarmers Taxation Services. Recognising a potential conflict of interest, they spearheaded the creation of an independent accounting firm. Thus, on 1 July 1973, Munro’s was born, marking the start of an extraordinary journey.
Early Growth: Operating initially from Queen Street in Perth, Munro’s quickly gained traction, particularly with farming businesses and cooperatives. These early years were characterised by a deep understanding of the local business landscape, fostering relationships that were to become the cornerstone of our growth.
Strategic Acquisitions: A significant milestone was the acquisition of R A Long Rigby & Co in 1989, broadening our client base to include city and metropolitan businesses. This period saw further acquisitions, including Ken Crofts and Portobello, diversifying our services and clientele.
Evolution of Services: As our client base grew, so did our services. We adapted to the evolving needs of our clients, offering more tailored and sophisticated solutions, from tax consulting to comprehensive business advisory services.
Embracing Technology: As technology has evolved, Munro’s has integrated advanced systems – from the introduction of computers in the early years of Munro’s, to later adoption of smartboards, digital client interfaces and AI. Achieving Recognition: In the late 2010s, a remarkable trend emerged – our clients began sharing their experiences with Munro’s through Google reviews. Within a short period, Munro’s reached a significant milestone, collecting over 100 5-star Google reviews (an achievement only achieved by 63 of 4,300 (1.5%) Australian accounting firms based on an assessment we conducted in December 2023).

Claims of being a ‘Top 2% ranked Australian Accounting Firm‘ (and similar claims) are based on two separate assessments conducted by Munro’s on 9-10 August 2023 and 1 December 2023. The ranking is derived from a comparison of the total of each accounting firm’s overall star rating multiplied by each firm’s quantity of reviews as shown on Google Maps. A total of 4,235 Australian accounting firms listed on Google Maps were identified for the earlier assessment, and a total of 4,301 for the latter assessment, which may not represent a complete list of Australian accounting firms. Munro’s claims are based on Munro’s best estimation and represent a snapshot collected at the time of each assessment. If the assessment was to be conducted today, then it is likely that Munro’s ranking would have changed – Munro’s may or may not be in the Top 2% today. Also, the methodology does not account for other potentially relevant factors such as quality of service, expertise, or client satisfaction beyond Google Maps reviews.
